Benington had a good mention in the local Hertfordshire Mercury this week (July 21, 2011). There was a good mention of what we are doing here at the Rec and this is what was said
“Sports Pavillion to rise from the ashes
A NEW sports pavillion at Benington Recreation Ground is getting closer to reality, the parish council heard.
Peter Warren, chairman of the Benington Recreation Ground Charity Trust, told a meeting last Wednesday that young villagers would be involved in the design of the new venue, with a planning application to be submitted soon.
He hopes to revive Beinington FC after an absence of eight years, following a fire which decimated the previous pavillion in 2004.
He said “Hopefully within four years, the club will be flourishing again. it’s about the village making it work, getting the kids off the street and seeing a plan come together.”
There are already 150 villagers who have volunteered their services to help build the pavllion off Oak tree Close.
Other sports such as cricket and badminton will also be played there and villagers will be able to buy a brick to help fund the new building
